La Thuile

“The origins of La Thuile”: a 10-stop loop through history, mines and mountains

La Thuile lies along the ancient Roman road that climbed to the Little St Bernard Pass, the Alpis Graia, one of the oldest crossings of the Alps. For centuries the village lived on pastures, trade and exchanges between the Aosta Valley and Savoy.

In the twentieth century La Thuile was a mining village: coal was extracted from its mountains, and the tunnels, miners' houses and family stories still tell of that era.

The guided tour “The origins of La Thuile” follows a loop of 10 stops, about 3.4 km in an hour and a half, suitable for everyone. Groups are limited to 28 people, in two time slots a day.
